Welcome to Elianthe’s Guesthouse (Battenburg House Anno 1850), in the heart of Swellendam, third oldest town of South Africa. Situated close to many restaurants and attractions, here guests can experience our beautiful town with it’s historic buildings, blue mountains and old oak trees.

This 180 year old Victorian house has been renovated, but has kept much of it’s former historic character. Surviving the horrific fire of 1865, this is truly one of the few national monuments of our town. The late Sir Henry Battenburg arrived in the Cape in 1850 and lived with his wife in the house on the main road. Locals rumoured that he was a prince. His signage can still be seen on one of the windows.

Now the doors of this house is open for guests to enjoy a pleasant bed and breakfast experience.

Elianthe’s Guesthouse is a lovely Victorian styled building with majestic views of the Langeberg mountains. The clean fresh air of our beautiful surrounds will ensure a well rested body and mind. Guests can lounge at the pool area, relax under the trees, canopies, umbrellas or one of the many quiet spots on the front terrace.

We focus on detail, to make our guests feel comfortable and at home. Each one of the 6 en-suite rooms is decorated with care. The atmosphere is warm and hospitable. Here you enter as guests, but leave as friends!

Each room is tastefully decorated with a bit of country, modern and French flair. The beds are all covered with white linen of good quality. Two of the rooms have single beds, that can be pushed together to form a king size bed; Two with double beds; One with a king size four poster bed and the Family room with one double bed and two twin beds and fridge and microwave facility. Most of our rooms have access to the garden or terrace.

Breakfast is served in the cosy dining room with views of the main road and a fireplace during colder weathers. Warmer months, one can even enjoy breakfast on the front terrace. A traditional warm breakfast is served, as well as a variety of cereals, yoghurts, fresh seasonal fruits and breads. Breakfast hours are setup to adhere to our business traveller or holiday guests.
