Wine tasting at Herold Wines is in an unpretentious tasting area set among tanks and barrels in the working cellar, with winemaking in view at harvest time.

Pinot Noir

Burgundian in style, damp earth, complexity, depth & structure. The acids of Herold’s flagship wine are true of the cool conditions in the Outeniquas. Alcohol 13%; total acidity 5g/litre; pH 3.59; production 2038 bottles.

Sauvignon Blanc

Tropical flavours, zesty acidity, flinty finish. Alcohol 12.5 %; total acidity 7g/litre; pH 3.17; production 5300 bottles.

Skaam Skaap Blended Red

Dry, fresh acidity of 42% Sauvignon blanc, strawberry cream tartlet and vanilla undertones from wood fermented 26% Chardonnay and 32% Pinot noir. An unusual and exciting blend. Alcohol 13%; total acidity 6.8g/litre; pH 3.27;

production 2400 bottles.

Red Men Red Blend

Red fruit, pepper & savoury notes with cool acidity and soft tannins from 60% Shiraz, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon

and 6% Merlot. Alcohol 12.5%; total acidity 7g/litre; pH 3.36; total production 4607 bottles.

Gertrude Natural sweet

Grapes left to linger on the vines gather sweetness to contribute to the berry flavours of Pinot noir while fermentation and maturation in old French oak for 12 months gives added complexity. Alcohol 14%; total acidity 5.7g/l; pH3.72 res sugar 25.6g/l; production 375ml – 1812 bottles.
