The Knysna Country House offers stylish yet comfortable 4-star accommodation in the peaceful and leafy suburb of Hunters Home in Knysna, along the splendid Garden Route, less than 2 minutes from the Knysna Golf Course and not even 5 minutes from the Pezula Championship Golf Course, while the Jack Nicklaus’ signature course of Simola is a mere 20min. drive away.The guesthouse offers bed & breakfast with a variety of rooms to choose from. From the entry-level Standard Rooms to the more spacious and luxurious Luxury Rooms, and from the thatched Luxury Garden Cottage for our honeymooners and guests looking for a bit of privacy, to the Family Unit for families or friends travelling together. The lush garden is home to a variety of birds, including the funky looking African Hoepoe, the colorful indigenous Knysna Loerie, the elegant Southern Double Collared Sunbird as well as the black and white spotted Helmeted Guinea Fowl which gave us the inspiration for our logo.
The large swimming pool, with the enticing image of the Knysna seahorse underneath the sparkling blue waters is inviting at any time of the day, and the comfortable sun loungers, complimentary bath towels and large umbrellas providing a much needed shaded spot may find you lounging by the pool all day…
The Norwegian owners Anita and Jarle Gjerde have opened their home to be run as a guesthouse by us, Erik Ekkelkamp and Ypie Kingma. We are originally from The Netherlands, but made South Africa our new home in 1999. We have been in the hospitality industry ever since, run an exclusive tour company as well, and look forward to sharing the secrets Knysna and its surrounding areas offer with you!

Map and Directions to Knysna Country House
From Cape Town / George:
- Follow the N2 through the center of Knysna, towards Plettenberg Bay;
- You will see the Provincial Hospital on your left, and then a Caltex petrol station and KwikSpar on your right (at the robot / traffic lights);
- At the next turn off turn right onto George Rex Drive, towards the Knysna Heads;
- At the 4th turnoff (clearly signposted as the Knysna Golf Course turnoff), turn left into Howard Street;
- Follow the road along the Knysna Golf Course;
- Immediately after the Knysna Golf Course the road splits in three – take the middle one;
- At the top of Howard Street, turn left at the t-junction into Fraser Street;
- After about 200m. you will find the Knysna Country House on your left.
From Port Elizabeth / Plettenberg Bay:
- As the N2 descends into Knysna (before you get to the first robot / traffic lights!) turn left onto George Rex Drive, towards the Knysna Heads;
- follow directions as above…
