Ocean Odyssey Whale Watching
Ocean Odyssey
We are passionate about showcasing Knysna’s natural assets. The breath-taking Garden Route setting provides us with the ideal platform from which to introduce visitors to our rich aquatic heritage, our iconic estuary and adjacent coastline. We are the proud holder of a prestigious Blue Flag status, and international award given to beaches, marinas and nature-based boat excursions that meet standard of excellence in the following categories: Environmental Education, Environmental Management, Safety and security, and water quality.
Close Encounter Whale Watching
Let’s get up close and personal with these majestic giants that inhabit our vast and pristine Indian ocean. These migratory mammals, Southern Right and Humpback whales, grace us with their presence from June to November annually showing off their acrobatic skills while nurturing their young. Approaching a whale requires incredible skill and understanding of the behaviour of these wild creatures.
Duration: 1.5 – 2 hours
Marine Eco Tour
Departing from Thesen Island Marina, we cross the Knysna Estuary to the Knysna heads and proceed through the mouth out into the teeming Indian Ocean. This trip will take you on a marine adventure in search of dolphins, seals, penguins and birdlife. View the unique and magnificent Garden Route coastline in all its glory!
Duration: 1.5 hours
Heads Adventure
We depart from the Thesen Island Marina and head out in to the vast one of the most diverse estuaries in South Africa. Our skipper will share some incredible history, facts and information about our historical coastal town. Our skipper will approach the heads and show you the incredible ancient cave and coves. An expanse of birdlife can be seen on this trip.
Duration: 45 minutes
Electric Bike Hire
Our recommended route will take from Thesen Island to the Costa Sarda walkway and cycle path that hugs the Knysna Estuary up to George Rex drive which take you directly to the Eastern Head. Viewpoints can be found at the very top of the Eastern head where you can sit an admire the vast Indian Ocean and maybe even spot some marine activity in the distance. East Head Café can also be found positioned perfectly for an uninterrupted view of the mouth of the Knysna Heads. Watch the boat and yachts enter and exit the Knysna heads with skill whilst enjoying a scrumptious breakfast or a delicious lunch. Just before returning to home base take a leisurely cycle around Leisure isle.
Stand-Up Paddle Board Hire
Experience the Thesen Island Waterways and the private beaches that can be found along the way on our rigid stand-up paddle boards. SUP is the fastest growing water sport in the world and the best way to explore the serine Thesen Island waterways.
Our Whale watching and Marine Eco trips are ocean going trips and are weather and sea conditions dependent. Conditions are influenced by tide, wind direction, wind speed and the swell at sea.
