The Cape Dutch Style Guest House was the townhouse of Francis William Reitz (* 5th October 1844 in Swellendam, †27th March 1934 in Cape Town), president of the Orange Free State (Oranje-Vrystaat 1889-1895) of South Africa. Family Reitz lived on a farm near by Swellendam in the Overberg District. They visited Swellendam on church days and stayed for a few days in what is today the Old Thatch Guest House in Swellendam. That was long ago, but til today the atmosphere in and around the Guest house is like in the old days.
