Protea Wilds Retreat

Situated in the heart of the Garden Route, this small and personal family owned estate offers you peace and tranquillity like you have never experienced before. Conveniently situated between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay, close enough to enjoy all the activities in and around the area (forest/beach horse rides, shopping, great restaurants, adventure sports, ferry trips etc.). Spoil yourself on this 270 hectare retreat, abundant with bird life, protea and fynbos, no through road. 3 Star graded.
Relax completely on this “end of the road” 270-hectare farm - open spaces where you can breathe. Our views of the Bitou Valley and the Langkloof Mountains are truly breathtaking.
You can be assured of great safety and security, as the farm and surrounding areas are very private and safe, with virtually no people/car/bike traffic passing through, maybe the occasional cyclist.
Go on a guided walk with our expert resident guide, horticulturist and birder of note, Karen.
Relax on the pool deck overlooking a valley of fynbos and the mountains. Take a hike down to the Bitou river (or make use of other walking routes on the property).
Book an expertly guided walk followed by or gourmet picnic (served at our newly built spectacular location). An easy, level walk on the property with plenty of indigenous plant species and Fynbos, bird life, insects and spectacular views. If you lucky you might even see small mammals like caracal and bush buck.
Bring your mountain bike and explore the farm as well as the mountain bike trails through the Knysna forest a few kilometers away.
Forest horse rides and quad bike rides available on a neighboring farm . See another neighbour milking hundreds of cows a day (buy your milk there if you want) or book a sumptuous cheese and local wine tasting.
Pick your own bunch of Protea and Fynbos. Order a picnic basket and enjoy at your leisure.
Protea Wilds Retreat is continually moving closer to becoming greener and more environmentally friendly. We recycle, we only use fully biodegradable, organic cleaning agents not tested on animals - where possible. We conserve water where we can, plant indigenous, and we save energy by phasing out normal bulbs and using solar heating for the pool.
Replenish, Refresh, Revitalise - a little gravel goes a long way!

Map and Directions to Protea Wilds Retreat
- Take the Protea Wilds brown tourism board turn-off from the N2 (big brown board together with Southern Comfort and Packwood). It is ± 15kms outside of Knysna (roughly measured from the Total Garage) or ± 15kms outside Plett roughly measured from the Shell Garage. The turnoff is to the left if you are travelling from Knysna towards Plett, and right if you are travelling from Plett towards Knysna. See also green Fisanthoek national road sign.
- You are now on gravel. Follow the road through two low water bridges. Not far after the second low water bridge, turn right (about 4.9kms from Fisanthoek turn-off up to here) at the Protea Wilds signboard (see big brown tourism board again). You will see there are some other nameboards also on this corner.
- Follow the winding farm road another 3.5kms (past Packwood Dairy, past the turn-off to Andreashof, past Humestead, past Protea Wilds Welcome sign) until you see a red on white signboard showing reception to your right (my terra cotta Cape Dutch house).
