St George's Park Port Elizabeth
St George's Park in Port Elizabeth is familiar to cricket fans worldwide for its magnificent cricket ground.
The first test match in South Africa, the first women's international test match and the first rugby test match in South Africa all took place in St George's Park. The oldest lawn bowls green in the country is here. There are also tennis courts and the largest swimming pool in the city.
To answer a question periodically raised by viewers of cricket : how did the Duckpond Pavilion get its name? There is a duckpond just outside and there are ducks as well!
Besides being a centre for sports the park also offers pleasant lawns, shady copses, a small outdoor theatre and monuments such as the spectacular Prince Alfred's Guard memorial to the city's oldest regiment as well as a less-known one to mark the visit of Prince Alfred, son of Queen Victoria, after whom the regiment takes its name.
From time to time the park also plays host to Art in the Park.
