Talking about Koukamma Tourism
Tuesday, 3rd November 2015
Did you know? Koukamma Tourism is the municipal tourism association that serves the Tsitsikamma and Langkloof regions. Recently, there has been quite a bit of conversation online about both the Tsitsikamma and Langkloof regions and this is due to a new social media and digital marketing campaign that Koukamma Tourism has embarked on in recent months.
With an emphasis on nature, adventure and family fun – the campaign which is focussed around the hashtags #ExploreTsitsikamma and #ExploreLangkloof is aimed at the domestic tourism market. South African Tourism is also using a fair of amount of marketing spend on their domestic campign “There’s nothing more fun than a Sho’t Left!” which is targeted to inspire South Africans to travel and explore within their own country. The #ShotLeft campaign, launched in September 2013, has seen incredible successes with their online campaign.
Koukamma Tourism chairman, Dewald Niemann says: “We want to join in encouraging South Africans to explore the Langkloof and Tsitsikamma regions either on road trips full of adventure or as family vacations, where there is something for everyone. Our area has such a unique offering for nature lovers, adventurers and families.” The #ExploreLangkloof and #ExploreTsitsikamma campaigns are still in their early stages, Niemann says, “our first few months have really been about fleshing out the website www.koukammatourism.com and starting our social media campaigns.” The Facebook and Twitter campaigns have proved very successful in the past 5 months, with the Facebook page approaching 2000 fans, reaching an average of 15 000 a month on Facebook and with about 3500 impressions on Twitter each month.
With the success of the campaigns online, the chairman is encouraging everyone in the tourism community both in the Langkloof and Tsitsikamma regions to ensure that they are:
- Listed on the website (a free service)
- Submitting their information to the social media campaign manager for feature
- Using and sharing the campaign hashtags #ExploreTsitsikamma and #ExploreLangkloof
“We can only fully grow the brands of the area with the support and enthusiasm of the tourism and business stakeholders in the Koukamma region. Our next phase of the campaign is to explore the lesser known features and benefits of the Koukamma area and we encourage all businesses involved in the tourism sector to send us suggestions and inspiration for this next phase in our campaign.”
